Basal cell carcinoma treatment

When it comes to basal cell carcinoma treatment, there are several factors that affect the treatment recommended by your board-certified dermatologist.

Electrodesiccation and curettage, also known as ED&C, is a procedure that removes the surface of the skin followed by burning the base of the basal cell carcinoma with an electric needle. Surgical options include surgical excision to remove the cancerous tissue and Mohs surgery to “shave off” thin layers of skin until all abnormal cells are removed. Other treatments include freezing, topical treatments and medications, although medications are typically recommended only for more advanced cases.

Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer, it but can be treated successfully if caught early. Common signs and symptoms include:

  • A mole on the skin that is growing, changing shape, or changing color
  • A mole that looks scaly, oozes, or bleeds
  • A new dark spot on the skin that looks like a mole, but grows quickly
  • Pain, itching or bleeding in a new spot on the skin
  • A brown or black streak underneath a fingernail or toenail
  • A bruise on the foot that does not heal

What is the treatment for melanoma?

Early detection of melanoma greater affects your treatment options. In these cases, the cancerous cells are typically removed with surgical excision from the skin. For cases that are in the later stages, your dermatologist may recommend surgery of the lymph nodes, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biological therapy and targeted therapy. We may also consult a network of oncologists to determine the best possible route for your total recovery. When all is said and done, our approach to skin cancer treatment is comprehensive, compassionate, and focused solely on your wellbeing.
