At our offices in NJ and NYC, we use several Q-switched and newer picosecond lasers that can remove a variety of different tattoo colors. In general, older Q-switched lasers are better at treating newer black tattoos. Picosecond systems such as PicoSure and Enlighten are better at treating older tattoos and some colors such as yellow that do not respond to Q-switched lasers.

Will tattoos completely disappear?
In most cases, patients experience almost complete removal of their tattoos. The outcome of your tattoo removal, however, depends upon many factors that Dr. Goldberg and his staff may be unable to determine. The rise in popularity of tattoos means hundreds of inks and tattoo techniques are used, and these factors significantly affect the ability to remove your tattoo.
Do all colors of ink disappear equally as well?
Unfortunately, different colors respond differently to the variety of laser technology. In general, the colors that respond best are black, blue, green, yellow, and red. Purple also tends to respond well to laser tattoo removal.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Most people describe the treatment feeling like a rubber band snap. You may be given a topical anesthetic cream to numb the area being treated. Any discomfort can be eased with the application of a cool compress. You can immediately return to your normal activities after your NYC laser tattoo removal.
How many treatment sessions will it require to remove the tattoo?
When dealing with tattoos, the average, professional tattoo requires approximately 6-8 treatments, while amateur tattoos require approximately 3-4 treatments, all spaced approximately at least 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends upon the volume and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin.
