Is a topical cream the right prescription for basal cell carcinoma on the face?
Answered by admin
Question:
My doctor diagnosed a basal cell carcinoma on my face and prescribed a topical cream that’s supposed to get rid of it. Does this sound like the right solution? I thought I’d need to undergo surgery to remove it?
Answer:
In general basal cell carcinoma responds better to surgery than to creams. Such creams are highly successful for treatment of pre-cancerous changes of the skin, but do not work as well for the treatment of skin cancer. In Europe, several non-surgical approaches are used for the treatment of skin cancer; they are not FDA approved for the treatment of skin cancer
